Inside the Box Score: Admirals Drop Both Games In Double-Header

It was a tough weekend for the Admirals as they were defeated in both games of their double-header on Saturday at the Wayne L. King Jr field.

The Admirals dropped the first game of their two-game set in extra innings against the Chicago Zephyrs s with a 5-4 victory in tenth innings on a game-winning single by Ray Williams.

In the second contest against the NW Indiana, the Admirals unfortunately could not keep up with the hitting of the Oilmen as they fell 12-4.

We take a closer at the box-score from both games from this weekend with some key notes and facts.

INSIDE THE BOX-SCORE:

  • Ryan Kent and Jeff Evak combined for 5 for 9 with 3 RBI’s, and 2 stolen bases.
  • Jeff Evak’s second home run on the season was the first home run hit at home for the Admirals.  His three run blast gave him 8 RBI’s on the season.
  • The Admirals had three extra base-hits with each one coming around to score.
  • Admirals and the Zephyrs both had 11 hits on the day.
  • In just his only second appearance for the Admirals, starting pitcher Doug Hayes out of University of Illinois, had a quality start as he went six innings, striking out three,and being accredited with only one earned run.
  • Starting pitcher Kyle Cliff for the Oilmen went 9 innings while striking out 11.
  • The Admirals had seven assist in the field.  Logan Fleener leads the team with assists with 25.
  • Admirals catcher Justin Kovalsky threw out three runners trying to steal a base against him.

  • The Oilmen pounded out 16 hits vs the Admirals 7.
  • The Oilmen scored in all but three innings.
  • Ryan Kent continues to be lethal on the bases as he swiped his 7th stolen base on the year.
  • Logan Fleener went 2 for 3 on the day and was 4 for 6 overall in the double-header.
  • Brock Borgeson was a huge lift out from the bullpen when he relived Tomas Aguillar.  Borgeson pitched two innings while yielding an unearned run.
